Many tasks feel a little more involved than they should be, which can scare off those who aren’t technically savvy. The Echo Show 5 may be able to do a lot but keep in mind that it is far from perfect in its current state. The Echo Show 5 2nd Gen has a discreet mute button and a camera shutter, which doesn’t entirely earn my trust but marks a step in the right direction. One big win on this new smart display is added privacy options, which were requested by many users in response to disturbing news articles about Amazon employees being asked to listen in on recorded conversations. If you want a smart alarm clock that can act as a central hub for a smart home, then you’ll have to look elsewhere. While the smaller form and lower price of the Echo Show 5 are both appealing for bedside use, Amazon has taken a step backward by removing the Zigbee smart home hub from its repertoire. Of course, you can’t play music too loud or else it won’t catch your voice commands. The speaker gets fairly loud without distorting. It sports two 4W speakers and actually sounds decent. Speaking of ears, the Echo Show 5 also has upgraded audio. ![]() The display is actually designed to be seen clearly from across the room, too, so you don’t have to place it right next to your bed if it’s within earshot. You can also make voice calls using a built-in microphone but only to other people with the Alexa app.ĭespite being just a bit larger than the Echo Spot, this screen looks noticeably better at a 960 x 480 resolution. The difference between the Echo Show 5 and the Echo Spot is that this model has a 5.5-inch touchscreen that is helpful for navigating the OS and watching videos. If you’ve been following along, you already know that Alexa is a capable tool for setting alarms and streamlining your evening routine. It is still built on the same platform as the Echo Spot but has a scaled-back form factor that deviates from the gigantic original Echo Show. Seeing how Amazon started the whole smart clock trend, it should come as no surprise that the Amazon Echo Show 5 (2nd Gen) Is one of the most feature-packed smart alarm clocks out there. ![]() It is not the original green but I have contacted the gentleman who re-did t. He celebrated his 80th birthday with “Duets: An American Classic,” featuring Barbra Streisand, Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder among others. He also won Grammys for his collaborations with other singers: “Playin’ With My Friends - Bennett Sings the Blues,” and his Louis Armstrong tribute, “A Wonderful World” with lang, the first full album he had ever recorded with another singer. The evening’s performance resulted in the album, “Tony Bennett: MTV Unplugged,” which won two Grammys, including album of the year.īennett would win Grammys for his tributes to female vocalists (“Here’s to the Ladies”), Billie Holiday (“Tony Bennett on Holiday”), and Duke Ellington (“Bennett Sings Ellington - Hot & Cool”). That led to an offer in 1994 to do an episode of “MTV Unplugged” with special guests Elvis Costello and k.d. He made guest appearances on “Late Night with David Letterman” and became a celebrity guest artist on “The Simpsons.” He wore a black T-shirt and sunglasses as a presenter with the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the 1993 MTV Music Video Awards, and his own video of “Steppin’ Out With My Baby” from his Grammy-winning Fred Astaire tribute album ended up on MTV’s hip “Buzz Bin.” But after turning 60, an age when even the most popular artists often settle for just pleasing their older fans, Bennett and his son and manager, Danny, found creative ways to market the singer to the MTV Generation. ![]() Released in 1962 as the B-side of the single “Once Upon a Time,” the reflective ballad became a grassroots phenomenon staying on the charts for more than two years and earning Bennett his first two Grammys, including record of the year.īy his early 40s, he was seemingly out of fashion. ![]() “We were rehearsing and the bartender in the club in Little Rock, Arkansas, said, ‘If you record that song, I’m going to be the first to buy it.'” “Ralph saw some sheet music in his shirt drawer … and on top of the pile was a song called ‘I Left My Heart In San Francisco.’ Ralph thought it would be good material for San Francisco,” Bennett said. They gave Bennett’s musical director, pianist Ralph Sharon, some sheet music that he stuck in a dresser drawer and forgot about until he was packing for a tour that included a stop in San Francisco. ![]() Ironically, his most famous contribution came through two unknowns, George Cory and Douglass Cross, who in the early ’60s provided Bennett with his signature song at a time his career was in a lull. “Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern. “No country has given the world such great music,” Bennett said in a 2015 interview with Downbeat Magazine. Robbie Robertson, lead guitarist and songwriter of The Band, dies at 80 He’s the singer who gets across what the composer has in mind, and probably a little more.” … I just like to make people feel good when I perform.”īennett was praised often by his peers, but never more meaningfully than by what Sinatra said in a 1965 Life magazine interview: “For my money, Tony Bennett is the best singer in the business. “I think people … are touched if they hear something that’s sincere and honest and maybe has a little sense of humor. “I enjoy entertaining the audience, making them forget their problems,” he told The Associated Press in 2006. If his singing and public life lacked the high drama of Sinatra’s, Bennett appealed with an easy, courtly manner and an uncommonly rich and durable voice - “A tenor who sings like a baritone,” he called himself - that made him a master of caressing a ballad or brightening an up-tempo number. Unlike his friend and mentor Sinatra, he would interpret a song rather than embody it. The last of the great saloon singers of the mid-20th century, Bennett often said his lifelong ambition was to create “a hit catalog rather than hit records.” He released more than 70 albums, bringing him 19 competitive Grammys - all but two after he reached his 60s - and enjoyed deep and lasting affection from fans and fellow artists.īennett didn’t tell his own story when performing he let the music speak instead - the Gershwins and Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and Jerome Kern. There was no specific cause, but Bennett had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2016. Publicist Sylvia Weiner confirmed Bennett’s death to The Associated Press, saying he died in his hometown of New York. ![]() It basically came down to slugging around hoping the zombie might be taking pain. It also just wasn't any fun as there wasn't any guided focus on what you're doing and the combat was brutally awful. ![]() I also wonder what a sexy nurse zombie is doing in the middle of the desert, just strange. The world does feature a couple of biomes, but these just mold into each other roughly and all look the same with what's in them. I once saw five of the same zombie in a group which is purely lazy. The animations are incredibly stiff no matter what you do with the same zombie attacking you. It's all basically the same whether you have other players glitching around or a horde of generic zombies sliding across the ground. The game also doesn't really have any goals to it and can't decide if it's a multiplayer survival game, a cooperative experience or a solo zombie survival. I felt as though I was playing a game on mobile that I've dialed back the render distance to minimum which was disgusting to witness. Not only does it present an aged world, it has poor performance and a pitiful draw distance at all times. Simply put, 7 Days to Die is absolutely appalling on the console being one of the worst titles I've ever played. After some substantial updates, I’d potentially want to give it another chance, but as is I wouldn’t want to spend another minute with it.7 Days to Die Review "A Horrible Apocalypse" Campaign With that in mind, it’s disappointing to see this sold on Xbox One and PS4 (with a retail release!) as if it is completed game. Despite its rough edges, the PC version has been successful for years now, and I have to imagine 7 Days to Die will also do well on consoles where competition among these types of sandbox survival experiences isn’t so fierce. My fear is that the situation won’t improve fast enough, assuming it ever really does get better down the road. There just isn’t enough here to stay engaged, and what is here is dated and unpolished. ![]() After earnestly going through the weekly cycle once alone and again in an online session (before being dropped because the host had left), I felt as if I had seen all I needed to. This is a sandbox game through and through, and while it does some basic zombie-survival-fantasy things right - hence the traction it has gained on Steam Early Access, and the interest from Telltale as a publisher - it is largely disappointing. Generally speaking, this is a game where you make your own fun the simulation isn’t deep enough and the story is too non-existent. There are also a range of world-state options to tinker with like day length, loot abundance, and enemy spawn rates, and there’s a “creative” mode with everything unlocked for screwing around. If it sounds like that’d get dull before long, you are correct, though playing with other people (online or in split-screen) does help to some extent. Other than that, it’s a self-motivated grind to stockpile materials so you can build a home from scratch or improve an existing one. You’ll find new crafting recipes for more advanced armor and weaponry, and there’s also some RPG progression with an unnecessarily large number of skills to pour points into or increase naturally by playing à la Skyrim. Most of the experience involves roaming for supply drops or scouting out abandoned buildings, and either killing the odd zombie along the way or running until your stamina gives out. ![]() To calculate the overall cost of one digital media advertisement, divide the overall impressions for a month by 1,000. The CPM, or cost per thousand, is the amount of money you have to pay for 1,000 people to see your advertisement. The number of impressions you want will vary depending on how large of an audience you want from that site. Impressions are the number of people who will see your advertisement. If you want two different video ads to appear for two months on YouTube, you would need to buy four units. Therefore, if you want a video ad to appear for two months on YouTube, you will need to buy two units. As with other digital ad buys, we will consider one CPM-digital ad “unit” as lasting one month. ![]() ![]() Most advertisers buy digital media, such as banner ads, based on the number of impressions. To again keep this simple, please budget a total of $25,000 for your entire media plan year to cover the personnel costs of managing SEO. However, it does involve some costs, in that agencies and companies that do SEO well either are investing in part of someone’s salary to manage it, or they are paying an agency. SEO is “free,” in that there is not a fixed or prorated expenditure on it. If you purchase SEM, be sure to identify 10 keywords you would want to embed in your site. Monthly Spending Cap per Website on Search, for a Total of 10 Keywords You may buy keywords on any of the following websites you don’t have to buy ads on all of them. So, to keep our J345 digital ad buy simple, we assume that you will spend no more than the following amounts on SEM on each one of the major search sites. SEM can be set up so that you don’t spend any more money each month that what you want - there is a spending cap. Marketers rarely have an endless supply of money - they usually have a set budget. These ads are bought in a rather complicated online auction, where marketers bid for key words. SEM is typically bought on a cost-per-click basis. Most homepage takeovers cost a flat rate of $400,000 to $450,000 per week for most major online portals (e.g., Yahoo, MSN) and online news sites (e.g., New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Variety). Sometimes, this can be a wrap that covers the entire background, or an ad that covers the whole front page. Snapchat Discover (top of app): $50,000 per dayĪ homepage takeover is an advertisement that covers the whole page of a website. Promoted Trend: $200,000 per trend (< less than a month)Įmoji: $80,000 (must be purchased in an increment of 12 units, 1 unit per month) A unit of digital media is one month or less (Snapchat filters last one day, for example), and has been assigned a flat rate for your convenience. Fixed digital media costsĭigital media buys purchased at a fixed cost tend to be costly and specialized to reach a wide internet audience. This means for every 1,000 times the ad is shown, about 10 people click on it. The average click-through-rate of Facebook ads, for example, is around 1 percent. It just means the ad will be placed in front of them. Keep in mind that an impression does not necessarily mean your audience will pay attention to the ad. You will need to know the size of your audience in order to make these calculations. While a fixed digital cost will charge the same amount regardless of who sees your ad, advertisements that have CPM costs will also ask you how many impressions want from your post. Most other digital ad space, however, charges for 1,000 impressions, or cost per thousand, which we know as CPM (cost per mille). Examples include a Buzzfeed sponsored article or a Snapchat lens. Creative units can also drive ad costs - ads that are more interactive (like rich media, or the high impact units shown in lecture) cost more, because in general, they are more effective.ĭigital media is bought in one of two ways. More than three decades ago, the young filmmaker Todd Haynes directed an all-Barbie cast in his short feature “Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story,” which tracked the wholesome contralto’s Nixon-era rise to fame alongside her brother Richard and her subsequent descent into anorexia, which killed her at the age of thirty-two. But, to a certain slice of the Gen X cognoscenti, “the Barbie movie” will always and forever refer to a very different film, one both notorious and barely seen. ![]() It is a relief (if not a surprise, given Gerwig’s track record) that “Barbie” is also witty and inventive, a good rosé sparkling amid the usual summer-blockbuster sludge. The months-long publicity blitz and box-office triumph of “Barbie”-which earned a hundred and fifty-five million dollars on its opening weekend, giving the director Greta Gerwig and the nascent Mattel Films the biggest début of 2023-has been a dazzling confetti blast of media total war, as inevitable as a bright-pink Abrams tank. ![]() The critics of cover letters point to research that suggests that 86% of recruiters and hiring managers toss your cover letter aside without reading it.
